Seat belt trim

I searched but didn't come up with anything conclusive. I recently bought a new (to me) black interior. I dropped the headliner to recover it as well, and realized the seat belt trim that snaps around the belt is not removable. The trim appears to have been installed before the belt was sewn to the latches and mounted in its hardware. Problem is the set of belts I got is missing one of these trim pieces. Now I could dremel one of the old one's off making just a slit in it to allow the belt to slip through, but is there a better way?

Re: Seat belt trim

If your talking about the trim that clips to the headliner!!!that's the way to do it,put a thin slit in it.

Re: Seat belt trim

I hate havin to modify, but we gotta do what we gotta do. A small slit is better than no trim at all. Thanks for the quick answer.

Re: Seat belt trim

What I can not figure out is these are sold on ebay and even NOS with no slit...how in the world would you get that on there without cutting the belt stitching or the new trim piece?

Re: Seat belt trim

I quess you have to remove the stitching on the belts then have them resown.

Re: Seat belt trim

I don't suspect there will be a real fix other than buying another belt with the trim already in place. Oh well. Not going for a concourse resto here, just an above average refurb.

Re: Seat belt trim

I believe you can 'unthread' the seat belt from the reel in the roof and slide a new one on, then rethread the belt. Not sure I want to mess with that assembly though. I just used a razor saw to make the slit in the ones I put on, doesn't show very much, no one looks there anyways

No,can't do that either!! it looks like a ratchet tie down in their, they stick the belt in the slot and loop it,then it is sown in their also

The only way to get that trim piece in without cutting it, is to cut the threading, put in on,then resow itjust take it to your local upholstery shop!it will only take a couple minutes.
