Need to refinish the steering wheel on 1989 TTA. It appears to be a little lighter than black. I tried GM "Graphite", but it is too light. Does anyone know the name of the color or paint code?

"Paint code"?!?! Dooood... you're seriously gonna try to paint your steering wheel?!?!

 

I used a Flat Black (dunno the code) when I redid mine (just chipped & peeled) the match was as perfect as could be asked for. Did 1 arm & matched the other 2 so I went ahead & did them as well.

If you really want to get the actual code? I would recommend going over to www.gtasourcepage.com & looking/asking over there.

 

Not sure if you will find a paint code for it. My TTA wheel is definitely black though. Yours might be faded.
You might want to check out Dallas Custom steering wheel. They will recover yours and they do some nice work.

Thanks guys...I've got an old "core" steering wheel to test on...I'll give the flat black a test and see how close it is. If not, I'll take the paint code to my paint guy and see if he has it in is computer for matching.

 

Carlos, that is the only option we have now. After the bankruptcy, GM had to sell off their herd of multi-color cattle.

 

A friend of mine had this wheel on an outside Noah's Ark playground boat,he had it wrapped with a steering cover for about 8 years,the leather was in perfect shape(LIKE NOS),well anyway the spokes were rusted and I couldn't find the right gray for them,so I mixed some Flat Black Spray Enamel and some White Satin Spray until I had the right color and it came out very close to the original color.

 

Flat black worked great. don't know why I was trying to convince myself it was some dark shade of gray.

On the 86TA,it is a dark shade of Gray,almost like a Graphite.
