Identify this part please

I am working on my 87 RS. When I removed my steering column, this 3 inch long plastic piece with an O ring and a spring popped out from somewhere under the dash. When I pulled the replacement column at pick a part the same part popped out. Someone please identify this for me and give me instructions for replacing it. I'm not sure where it goes or which direction the spring goes either. I am replacing my column and need to reinstall the replacement asap. Please see the attached photos.

Thank you for your help.

Re: Identify this part please

My guess is that it's the spring and guide for the tilt mechanism.

Re: Identify this part please

It is not the spring for the tilt if you are talking about the one located inside the column under the steering wheel lock plate. All of those parts are still intact. My guess is that it came from somewhere near the ignition which is half way down the column. Any other ideas? I'm sure someone has seen this part before. And once again, thanks.

YES! You are right. Now that it is daylight and I know what I'm looking for I could spot it. Thank you very much. Now off to the store to get a replacement.

No, that's not the brake light switch. That's the rod for the cruise control brake release switch (vacuum side). I hated it when that stinking thing would come apart for almost no reason.

Those pictures are so big that once I zoom out far enough to see them I can't read the text because it's so small it looks like a straight line.

YES you are actually the one who is right. It's right next to the light switch. I just found it right now at autozone. Thank you all for you help.
