Re: cargo storage shelf question

it locks into the rear hatch panel that covers the hatch motor. I might have a extra lock kicking around here

Rich- There is supposed to be a plastic latch that sticks out of the hole in the cargo shelf. It screws to the metal bracket underneath.
I circled it in your pic.

Re: cargo storage shelf question

Also - I pointed this out over on NYthirdgen - that rear plastic cover won't work with the locking cover you bought. It is for a later model car with the power hatch. The center section is too big to work with your locking cover.

The molded part that shelf sits on. Does the plastic I need have the same placement as the one I have now.

Re: cargo storage shelf question

I am not sure what you are asking. Give me a few hours and I will snap a pic of my rear plastic trim piece. I have it in my basement. I will also take a pic of the plastic latch that the cover locks into.

Re: cargo storage shelf question

OK Rich - here you go. You can see that the difference between the standard plastic trim and the one made for the hatch is the little plastic shelf built into it. There also is a hole in it for the latch.
You can see the center section is shorter on this one as compared to the one you bought. You have 2 solutions - either find the correct cargo cover or find the correct plastic trim piece.

Who is Ted and where did you get these brackets? I've been trying to add one of these to my 91 T/A for months, but got no responses to the thread I started ( https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/inte...ml#post5319500 ).

I don't care about being about to lock mine or not, I just want to make sure I'm not drilling into the gas tank when I install it since the tank is right under the sheetmetal that I need to mount it to. What kind of hardware did you use to hold the hinge down?

I was thinking I'd just somehow attach a few nubs or small pieces of rubber on the cargo divider to catch on the large cover that goes over the latch/hatch motor assembly when the shelf is down (I didn't get the latch/motor cover from the car I got the cargo divider from since I would have a giant hole for the weird magnety plate looking thing that is only on the earlier cars with the hatch pulldown).

Any help would be appreciated, this is one of the biggest problems I've had trying to get this car ready to go out for paint/bodywork/engine and transmission install.
