Re: Setting up gauges

I think you're going to have to punch a small hole through the firewall.

Does anyone know where to do that hole? I cannot find a safe looking place to do so. Pictures would be really appreciated.

Also I saw in another thread that you simply took off the dashpad and run them under there. I see another wire or two, but nowhere to run them. Is it different for firebirds?

Re: Setting up gauges

if it's only a few small wires, could slip them through the rubber plug for the speedo cable. If the gauges are cheapie china/taiwan ones,do not hook up that ammeter-cheapie ammeter a real failure/fire hazzard, leave unhooked or swap for voltmeter.

Re: Setting up gauges

Where did you want to mount them as that helps as to where to run the wiring. I removed the cruise control out of my car and there was a hole for the wiring and vaccume hose to go thru. I just used that for all my wiring. Its behind the brake pedal. heres a pic of the area. You can see it next to the steering shaft on the firewall. In the pic its just got the gromet in it and thats what i used for most of my wiring

Re: Setting up gauges

So basically you want the gauges to mount under the vent like this

If so if you have a map light in your dash for above the radio and HVAC controls it will be easy as you just run the wiring tho that into behind the dash if not you got to drill a hole

Re: Setting up gauges

I have a spot already drilled for wires to go through the fire wall on mine, behind the fuse box up on the fire wall. I just used that. It's not very big, but it's there.

Re: Setting up gauges

I mounted mine like that when I got the car they were under the dash and were knee knockers lol but I also mounted a tac to the side of the original gauge pod side ways to line up with the gauges under the vents and ran all the wires behind the tac and then between the center console and underneath side of the original gauges...really didn't want to put a hole in my dash as they'll be moved to the a pillar eventually
