What LEDs for gauges?

I'm trying to do red LEDs for my gauges in my 92' camaro but I'm trying to figure out which ones. I used ones like these -

Amazon Amazon

But they weren't anywhere near bright enough. What ones should I be using and which ones are the brightest?

Re: What LEDs for gauges?

I'm gonna be doing this too. From what I've read on here, get at least 4 diode LED at at least 90* angle or more. There is only 4 bulbs for the backlighting so you need a wide angle. I'm probably gonna go with 120* for the backlighting and 90* for the other ones.

And paint the light blue area in back white/silver or put in tin foil so they reflect better.

This is a pic of my autometer gauges and how they look. I used the 2nd link for my gauges it just all depends on how bright you want them

How much did it cost to change the gauges to autometer and how hard was it? I need to do that

194 defines the style and base of the bulb not the lighting element. A 194 is a wedge base bulb either led, incandescent or whatever else there may be. Just like a 1156 and 1157 are both bayonet base bulbs but the number means either a Doble base or single base.

Anyways, with a shine through Guage style like on newer cars where a reflection plate isn't used you might want a 6 diode to insure brightness. Also the color of the numbers and notches may affect the lighting with some bulb colors. Most cars have a blue tint on the gauges and when mixed with a yellowish tint of incandescent bulbs it becomes green ( think back to elementary school with mixing colors) so you may get a more purple color if you don't remove the tint. IMHO go for 6 diode bulbs, test them with the tint on and if purple just use a sewing needle to scrape off the tint. It's tedious I know, but trust me, red is worth the work, I always get comments about my red lighting.
