Another take on cup holders

Haven't seen this one done before, and it realy isn't too special but it looks pretty good IMO, almost factory. Got this for 5 bucks at wal mart just to fart around with and see how it looked, definitely getting one for the passenger side tomorrow. Sorry about the crappy pic quality, my phone is a step above a potato.

I moved it more in the center rather than lined up with the plastic. Just screwed it right into the door panel, two small wood screws in the bottom middle and one behind the pack of smokes. Can't even see the holes and it will hold anything you put in there.

Edit: Just realized this may not work for 99% of you since I still haven't gotten around to getting an arm rest lol i'm sure you can just mount it a little lower and more forward and still have it out of your way

Yup, that's exactly it. I had it in the seat but thought it looked too stupid. Unless you have the deluxe panels I would highly suggest moving it, you can't even see the holes in the cloth if you use small enough screws.

Re: Another take on cup holders

Looks good, I wouldn't do it though.
1: don't wanna drill holes in my door panel, no matter how small
2:I like leaving my drink in the car, and i know the mess that would make if you slam the door with a drink there. I used to have the door cup holders, and I HATED them for that exact reason. I'll stick with my wedge between the seat when I'm not trying to impress anyone, and if I am trying, I can always take it out lol.
Not dissing your work in any way, it does look good, its just not my style.

I know the interior of the Camaro is pretty spartan looking, but that does not look factory.

no need to jump down my throat guys I was just impressed with how it came out. For those of us that have...less than quality interiors I think it's a better option than cutting a giant hole in front of the console or screwing the crappy little window cup holders right into the plastic next to the HVAC controls.

Re: Another take on cup holders

My father (who has a full woodworking shop) took my old console and is going to build cup holders into the storage compartment. Close the lid, you never know they are there. Going to fiddle around with single and dual holders, compartments, etc.

If there is a demand for it, he may make more to sell.

Re: Another take on cup holders

I haven't reinstalled my interior yet, but my 1984 Z -28 has a center console that used to house a clock by the glove box lid. My plan is to find a cup of sufficient size and shape, set it into that hole, trim it for heighth, then maybe slice a length of vacuum hose to slide on over the top lip just to finish it out a bit. I can epoxy it to the console from the bottom to secure. It will of coarse be sprayed black to blend in. I imagine I'll also need to relocate the power window switches, but since this console didn't originally have them that won't create any issues. I'll get some pics up when it's complete, but I'm still several weeks out from reassembly. I just wanted to throw the idea out there since it seems to be an easy an obvious mod if you know about the early style clock consoles.

Those are both good ideas, definitely get some pics up when you're done.

Re: Another take on cup holders

While flipping through posts the other day I came across a member (FireDemonSiC) on the fourth page of the "Anyone have a "WoW" factor in their interior" post that has what I had visualized doing. I'm not sure what the cupholder is comprised of, but the end result is just what I plan to shoot for. For those who don't use their HVAC systems anymore, some type of dual cup retractable model could probably be fabbed into the center dash vent houseing for a more ergonomic feel, but mine will be a daily driver.
