4th gen console into a 3rd gen GTA - PLEASE ENTER !

I've seen several threads of 4th gen consoles into 3rd gen Camaro's but no firebirds.

Has anyone here installed a 4th gen "AUTOMATIC" console into a 3rd gen Trans Am GTA ?
Looking to do this swap on my son's 87 GTA since his current console is getting harder to find repair/replace parts and pieces for. Any pics of you work would go a long way and would be greatly appreciated.

Post up what you've got or done.

His GTA....

Yes, the console bolts up using the existing holes. It's the shifter that requires you to do cutting and shimming to get it to the correct height.

That's great !
So from the looks of it, the shifter is bolted to the floor and then the console is trimmed and placed "over" the shifter, correct ?

Yep, you got it. The B&M shifter won't fit in the existing holes. Those have to be drilled to align/center it with the new console.

It's definitely a custom job, but when it's all said and done it looks really good.

Well I guess it's time to start chasing down a 4th gen console and have my son choose which shiter he wants.

Choosing just any shifter may not work. The height of the shifter is critical, 4th gen cars have less room height-wise than our consoles. I can only vouch for this shifter, b/c it's the only one I've tried.

Just a heads up.

Thanks for the heads up !

Believe it or not he likes the same one you have and his other choice is the black "stealth" version of your shifter.
