I live in Arizona, a state that is NOT friendly to the later center consoles. I picked up a center console out of a 97 Bird from the yard (Auto). Was going to swap it in but realized that it would require modifications that would not make it possible to just swap it back should I desire. I also notice that the 82-85 Consoles have hard sides, not that vinyl, pleather, or what ever that warped material is on it. Question is, would this console be a direct bolt in to the 88 (by removing the radio pod and center console)?

Guess I was misleading. I am wondering if the early 82-84 hard sided consoles would be a direct bolt in.

 

If you get a manual top to the late model you shouldn't have to do any mods, that's the problem I ran into with my bird being a auto, either a custom top or a manual top.

I can't answer to if a early style will fit though
