Center Console Replacement

I bought a center console for my 98 Firebird and need to know how to remove the automatic shift handle. Anyone done this before?

Re: Center Console Replacement

Put the key in the ignition, put it in the "run" position so that you can move the shifter all the way down to 1st gear. After you have it in 1st gear, you'll be able to see the u-clip that pulls out at the backside of the shift ****. Pull the u-clip out, and the **** should come right out.

Re: Center Console Replacement

Pair of needle nose pliers works too, or even a fork or kitchen knife if you're in a bind. Just need something metal to stick behind it and pry it out.

The thing you need to pull out looks like a staple. The first time I tried this, it went flying and I couldn't find it. Make sure you're careful!
