What illuminates inside at night?

I finished restoring my interior last month and drove - in the dark - for the first time tonight. Although my gauges (with led lights which look great!), the hvac controls and the radio clock light up, I was surprised at how dark the interior is. Are the headlight switch, lighter or any other areas supposed to light up (in stock form)? Or, is it normal for everything to be so dark and lightless? PS: I did change the micro bulb over the HVAC but I don't consider it a light; it's useless.

That micro-light is there not so much to light the interior, but to create a dim fill of light so you have a sense of space to the interior under dash area. Think of it as eliminating the potential black hole.

They seem to be there to light the position of the HVAC switches.

The map light below the mirror should not light up with the headlights on. It should light when the door are opened or the switch (or switches) are turned on. Earlier ones had individual switches to light each map light separately. Later they cheapened to just one switch to illuminate both map lights.

On our 1992 Formula, there is, in fact, a small light inside the mirror that lights up. It shines down on the console, more or less. I will see if I can get a picture of it. Its between the map lights in the mirror.

Re: What illuminates inside at night?

@kwik89gta thanks for having my back on that one hahaha I swear I'm not making this up! my 91 base model didn't have that light on it though, so I guess maybe it was an option? I'm not sure. I don't personally like it though, I got used to driving in darkness in my first 'bird so it actually makes my interior look too bright to me.
