My new 1987 FIREBIRD TRANS AM ....questions about 4th gen compatibility

Hey guys, just picked up my first V8 third gen car. I had a 2.8 camaro and firebird back in the day....This is an 1987 Trans AM with 54k original miles. I attached the some pictures. It runs perfectly and the only aftermarket thing on it is headers and full flowmaster exhaust. the interior is not in great shape and its tan in color which is not my preference. The seats are detereorated (seller said from Florida sun).

I didnt care much about the interior because I have a 4th gen camaro with a mint interior that I am parting out, it only has 120k miles but it a 6 cylinder car and it has rust issues under the body (Ohio car). So anyway. I know the leather seats would work (Originally from a 2002 trans am with lumbar power options). My question is, what else would work?

Does the carpet from the 4th genwork? seat belts? steering wheel (is the whole steering column interchangeable)? door panels? any interior plastics? sunvisors? I have seen people put the 4th gen center consoles on these, is that a direct swap also or needs mod?

I know the dash works...but thats a little more involed than I would like to get on it. I either want to get the stuff that is a dirrect fit or minor modifications.

I will post pictures as I change out the stuff for anyone interested. Also, if there is a link someone has about what all is interchangeable, please share. I would also be interested in knowing what from the outside of the car works...I know the aluminum driveshaft would be a direct swap. What else? (rotors, calipers, sway bars, shocks/struts, spindles, etc.)

Thanks in advance!

Re: My new 1987 FIREBIRD TRANS AM ....questions about 4th gen compatibility

I am planning on keeping this car for a long time, so I want to make it as nice as possible. I also bought an 86 camaro roller for parts (someone took the engine and transmission off of it). So if someone needs anything, let me know, I probably have it. Located in Charlotte NC.

Looks good. I know you can make the dash and center console work with some modifications.

Thanks! I am trying to make the interior look as nice as the exterior on it. This was a great find for me, because the parts that are bad on it (seats, dash) I am ready have from my car and are somewhat upgrades in my opinion at least.

Quick search option at top of the screen yielded this thread:

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/body...-exterior.html

It looks like a complete thread with compatability with interior and exterior, if you wish, you can do a more elaborate search, IE 4TH Gen console, 4TH Gen Dash, etc.

I have managed to change out the carpet (fit almost perfect), seat belts, center console (manual), Seats obviously. also changed the speakers all around for better sound. Trying to mod the rear sail panels from a 4th gen into this car...to get the 2 extra speakers in the back as well

will post pics!
