I have a 1984 Trans am, can anyone recommend a company that sells a complete weather stripping kit for the doors , rear hatch and T tops.

I would especially like to hear from anyone who have actually used product or have it installed on their car.

 

I just bought a complete set from 1AAuto - a regular visitor to this board. The brand is Metro, which has gotten generally good reviews from our fellow forum members. Price was competitive.

It looks really nice - soft and well-formed. I hope to start installing it this weekend.

Actually, the set I bought included these sills. Nice sills, with weatherstrip already attached. Just attach 'em to your door cards.

Thanks Tony, can you tell me what the difference is between this kit and #1AWSK00131. I do like the price of the one you recommend better.

 

This kit includes inner and outer sweeps 1AWSK00131, where the other kit does not.

Started on my weatherstrip install:

• Put in the first t-top strip last night. Fits really well, and its nice and soft. The top is a TIGHT fit after the strip is in. I silicone'd the t-top panel to get it to slide in the slot first time. I left the top in overnight - we'll see if it starts to settle in.
• The little plastic pins that hold the B-pillar end to the body are a loose fit. I had to wedge them in while the glue dried.
• The A-pillar end has no attachment to the body except for the glue. I wedged a shop rag in the opening and partially closed the door to hold the end down while the glue dried.
• I recommend anyone who's doing weatherstrip installation read this booklet below. LOTS of good hints that I would not have known to do:

I had a shop install the 1A auto kit and now it leaks worse that it did with the 30 yr old seals.

I dont know what to do. I could cry

beware,most shops have techs that are younger than our cars!! they may SAY they can work on our cars .....but im finding its better to just do it yourself EVERY chance you get. im sorry for your loss

 

 

Install it yourself. It takes some patience, but it is not that hard to do. I know I did a better job then I would have gotten if I paid someone to do it. - all the info is on this site to get the weatherstrip done properly.
