Need a fix for the rear interior panels with carpeting
I have an issue with the rear interior panels in my car. The glue that held the carpeting on has given out. Does anybody know of a good fix to get the carpet to attach back to the panel? Anybody know the cause of this? Could the buildup of heat inside the car during the day weaken the glue bond? Anyway if you know of the correct kind of glue to use to get the carpeting to stick then let me know.

You can get 3M spray adhesive for cloth/carpet at any auto parts store.
The cause of the separation is most likely just age. Yes, heat, extreme cold, and especially moisture will accelerate the failure point, but remember the newest car in this generation is 21 years old. Stuff just "wears out" unfortunately.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll keep the adhesion promoter and the 3M spray adhesive in mind!

That sounds like a better idea to get the carpet to stick. I'll keep this in mind too.

You can always tape off the area where you don't want over spray with painter's tape and newspaper. Well that is if you plan on taking out the panel to do the work.

The panels are loose so there is no issue with that. I'm trying to find a way to make them sellable as they are out of my parts car.

Re: Need a fix for the rear interior panels with carpeting
Well, I'll say this:
When I went to remove the carpet pieces to paint the panels without getting the carpet, I left the panels out in the sun for several hours to bake. Getting the carpet off was MUCH easier after that (but it was still a pain).
To put the carpet pieces back on, I used 3M double-sided Permanent Mounting tape. It's gray and comes in something like 3 foot rolls (this stuff is THICK foam tape, not that cheezy stuff used for window sheeting). Unfortunately, you won't be able to use the last few inches on the roll (good luck getting it off), and it's $8 a roll (you will need at least 3 rolls... I'm a few inches short on one panel).

Lots of good ideas to fix this issue...I'd like to hear more of them if anybody else has tried something else!
