High beam indicator

I finally got around to putting blinker and high beam indicators on my autometer gauge panel and the high beam indicator comes on with the running lights and low beams. When I hit the high beams the indicator gets brighter and when I turn the low beams off it stays on but is dimmer. Any ideas? I took the wires from the stock harness and wired them into the indicator bulbs the grounded the other side of the bulbs.

Re: High beam indicator

A bad ground for the indicator light or headlights? I have hid headlights with the high beam and low beam on one bulb. It has its own relay harness.

Re: High beam indicator

Oh, you have HIDs.. This adds a new twist to the topic, and another possible solution.

If you take a 6054 from a TA and throw it in an IROC it wont light properly, conversely the 4656 from the IROC wont work correctly in the TA.

The 6054 pinout is the same as the H4, so an adapter is not needed. But on a Camaro it is needed.

Depending on how universal of a wiring kit was included, this could be the problem. Have you contacted the manufacturer of the retrofit?

Re: High beam indicator

Retrofit? I have a bi xenon hid kit with a relay harness. The car has no computer, if that matters. The hid kit is for the stock H4 bulb setup. I bought some 12v indicator lights from radio shack and wired them into the factory high beam and blinker indicator wires. I guess I'm not real clear on what your saying, sorry.

Re: High beam indicator

The layout of the wires within the stock 4656 connector is different than an H4 connector.

3rd Gen H4 Conversion Question

So by adding a kit based on an H4 socket, you are inheriting the difference in wiring; and thus the most likely cause.

Re: High beam indicator

Oh yeah, I did that when I hooked them up. The high beams wouldn't work so I called the company and they told me to swap the wires. So the high beams work but I have the high beam indicator staying on.

Re: High beam indicator

I wish I could be of more help but I am not an HID retrofit pro. Maybe another board member could chime in or you could contact one of them as there are a few threads here about it.

.. or you could always try the manufacturer

Re: High beam indicator

My stock headlight harness wasnt making a good connection with the hid kit. I cut out the stock plug and replaced it and it seems to be working fine.

Re: High beam indicator

Bringing up an old thread but I have the same problem since I installed LED headlights in my '91 Camaro. I did the wire swap as shown above so the high and low beams work correctly with the H4 harnesses and my high beam indicator glows as soon as I turn on the parking lights. Also, the individual LED cells (15 per light) glow on the high beams when they aren't on. Is this due to the improper grounding? Any possible fix?
