Power seat conversion in an 84

My 84 Trans Am came with manual seats but the person who owned it before me put in power seats from an 88 or 89. He said he didn't hook them up, but I wanted to know if there is a hookup there for me to plug the seat into, or do I need to run a line to the battery so the power seat will work? My car is in the shop so I couldn't check it out for myself today. Thanks for the help!

I just had my carpet out of my Trans Am. I don't remember seeing any kind of harness for one.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I'll have to search around for a way to power them. Thanks!

I added power to one of mine for a short bit while I had a power seat. The best way IMO is to go to the local Upull and grab the wiring necessary. Then you can see where it comes up through the carpet and how it is routed etc. Plus the wiring will be the proper gauge as well.

Re: Power seat conversion in an 84

i converted mine, the seat motor assembly came with the 2 pin connector i just extended it and powered it with ignition. unbolt the manual seat assembly and bolt the motorized one in. you will need to get the new plastics where the side button is at to flip the seat forward, it dosent look right if you don't.

Re: Power seat conversion in an 84

i have pulled several of these from cars i have parted out, and the factory wire that plugs into the seat goes through a small cut in the carpet under the seat to the edge of the floor and runs along the sill plate up to the power block that is behind the LH kick panel, one side of it is power at key on and the other is always on so take your pick.
if you don't have that connector any one that plugs to this block from a junk yard would do, so there is no need to go all the way out to the battery and will keep things alot neater.

Re: Power seat conversion in an 84

I pulled the interior to clean it and saw that all the wiring for the power seat was there it just wasn't plugged into the fuse box. I changed the tip then plugged it in and success! Thanks for the help guys!
