Re: ac hvac not working properly

CB a vacuum problem, there's a vacuum solenoid thing behind there that tends to leak air.

Do you hear hissing sound inside the car? near the HVAC controller. Theres a vid on YT on how to rebuild them - simple.

Also CB actuator on damper that diverts the air flow inside the ducts ... my Camaro has flow issues like that.

Also my fan runs fast on fan setting 2 than on 4 - weird.

Dunno for sure, haven't done it yet, its on the list.

Guess: got to take dash apart and get to it - not sure where it is exactly.

Chilton book may have info on it.

Defrost is the default setting when there's a vac leak. The following link details the most common issue:

Re: ac hvac not working properly

Before you go tearing into the dash, you should note that there are 2 BLACK vac lines in the HVAC harness. If someone messed with them in the past and didn't put them back together properly, nothing is going to work the way it's supposed to (one is the vac source and the other is the output to the heater control valve). Find the harness by the heater hoses that come through the firewall and find the lines. Swap them around, where they're currently connected, if possible. Try to see if the controls work again.

If that fails, reconnect the lines where they were originally and then proceed to mess with the vacuum switch on the control head.

Check the voltage coming to the motor from the high speed relay with the HVAC turned on and the system set to HI... Should be battery voltage. Chances are you have a power problem between the battery and the motor (I believe the relay power comes from the junction block by the headlights).

Yep once your engine is off, vacuum goes down and the damper is forced open.

The damper is a triangle shape in the duct right behind the stereo - I know cause a piece of my duct was cut off by PO, if I swing it by hand I can feel more air out of the front vents.
