DIY steering wheel

Has only one out there fabricated a steering wheel? I am a pretty big guy, I'm a defensive lineman playing college ball next year to give you an idea. I have the airbag type steering wheel. But it's a little big sometimes. Recently sat in the c7 corvette and loved the size of the wheel. I have looked around at aftermarket wheels and there pretty expensive. I was thinking of fabricating my own, using the adapters they sell online, aluminum spokes, and a fiberglass wheel. The only thing I would have to buy is the adapter for the column. Anyone done something like this?
