Window alignment/door jamb issues
When I bought this 92 Formula last month, I noticed the dome bulb was removed. I put a bulb in, and it was just as I suspected. They took the bulb out because it would never go off even when the door was shut. I figured it needed a new door jamb switch, and replaced it today, but the problem persists. When you push the switch the light flickers but then stays on. What else could it be? This may be related too....the car sometimes "beeps" when the key is in the ignition even when the door is closd.
And one more thing, the window does not wedge into the upper weatherstripping properly when the door is closed. The top of the window is out a little too far, and doesnt meet that little "slot" the glass is supposed to snap into. When I adjusted the two top bolts that guide the window position inside the top of the door panel, I got a snug fit at the top weatherstripping, but then there was about a 1/4" opening between the glass and the outer rubber at the bottom of the window. Cant find the right position.

This is probably a dumb question so forgive me in advance but did you replace both door jamb switches? The instrument dimming switch also if turned all the way will keep the dome light on.

Re: Window alignment/door jamb issues
Actually, no its not a dumb question, and this did occur to me but I didn't replace them both because everything about the passenger side door is almost perfect. Alignment, hinges, everything looks good. The drivers door, of course, is the one that needs work. The driver's side switch was also obviously much more worn as well. You could be right, but I'd have to order another switch if I do that. Is there any way to test which one was bad? Maybe the one that was less used and looked fine was the bad one. Unlikely, but certainly possible.

Do these switches have two wires or one wire going to them?

No, they have two. At least the one from the driver's side that I replaced did. I have not pulled the passenger side, but Im sure its the same.

Alright then all you would need to do is separate the wires after disconnecting from the switch. Be sure and put some tape over the ends of the wires so you don't short them out and blow the fuse.

To do what? To test them or to solve the issue? The switches have a plastic runner between the wires to keep them from touching.

If you separate both wires on each switch after disconnecting then the dome light should go out. If indeed that is where your problem is. Be sure and cover the ends with tape after disconnecting from switches. If the dome light is still on the problem could be in the headlight switch itself. This is to test to make sure it is a door jamb switch. Let us know if the dome goes out after doing this.

Re: Window alignment/door jamb issues
Thats very helpful! I know there is something wrong with the headlight switch because the full headlights come on even when you only push the fog light button. That could be the culprit. I'll do the test as soon as I can. I live in western IN, and we're going to be freezing our butts off starting tomorrow. Calling for -14 on Monday, so I might not get to it for a few days. But its a great starting point. Thanks for your help. Any tips on the window alignment issue?

In the help section of this forum I believe there is in depth posts covering aligning your window. I would type aligning window in the search box.

Good luck with the weather, I hope your power stays on. We have lost ours for up to six days. The gas heat pays for itself right then, keeps running without electrical.

Thanks. I have a gas furnace, not sure if mine will run without power. Uses an electrical ignition. Hopefully we wont have to find out. -14 and -17 with no power is an epic fail.
