GTA seat question
As some of you who view the classifieds know, i am looking to repair a GTA seat. Due to the lumbar and knee bolster would the frame of the seat be specific to a gta or will a normal style seat frame work. Would a fourth gen seat frame work? Thanks in advance

Re: GTA seat question
Only 3rd gen GTA will work w/ pwr lumbar, foam is specific too.Although i have seen the same seats in some 90s era Grand Ams.
Forget 4th gen, totally different frames.

Re: GTA seat question
What part is broken?
I actually combined the bottoms of a 4th gen with the top of my gta seat. It was pretty much plug and play. The upholstery is another ongoing story. But seat kits for the correct color med. beechwood will now fit.
Both pieces are screwed together the same way, if that helps.
My old seat bottoms were shot, metal wise. I got 4th gen seats and had them for a while, until I wanted it to look more like stock. I switched most all the plastics over and basically the electrical and the bottom frame is 4th gen.
Hope this helps.

Re: GTA seat question
The car the seats came out of was t boned. The frame of the seat is bent but the upholstery is still in nice shape. I am looking for a seat to transfer the covers over. I thought there could be a chance of gta seats having a similar frame to other seats but it looks like there is not.

Re: GTA seat question
Okay, I see what your saying. My suggestion is go to a junk yard and try to find a 4th gen car with the AQ9 option (AQ9's were offered on the GTA aswell as in the 4th gen). It is not the exact same seat, but a lot of it is. That is, speaking about the 1998-2002 seats. (If you find an 87-96 car I think the only difference is the style headrest. The bottoms are the same.)
98-02
The top is going to be difficult. You have two options.
One is you can unbolt the top, take off the good material and put it on the 4th gen top that you find. Take that 4th gen top and bolt it on the bottom portion. (The bottom (yours) doesn't look too bad) Downside is that you'll have to use the 4th gen headrest.
unless
Two, the top, take the headrest out and all components from that channel that the headrest moves on. Cut the metal channel from the seat and weld it to the 4th gen metal skeleton from the 4th gen seat. For this, the plastic (your plastic) will have to be in good shape.
The bottom- you might need to take it to an upholsterer to get the material right and looking good, but....
the bottom, from the 4th gen seat, remove it from the rest of the seat and remove the material that was there. If you go this route, you will not have the knee bolster, but you should be able to tug on the material enough to get it to sit right.
My suggestion is that you get the 4th gen seat relativley cheap and take it apart first. You will get an idea about how your seat is assembled and you won't risk ruining the material on your seat.

Re: GTA seat question
Thanks for the reply I am glad to see my options are a little more open. The only problem is that the bottom is also bent and I want the seat to be an exact match to the passenger. I guess I could take the upholstery off and see how bad the frames are bent, they could possibly be fixable.
