I have a 1987 Trans am that the seat back lays to far back. Is there any adjustments or stops that need replaced to bring the seat to a more upright position? Thanks

 

I have the same issue, with just the drivers seat. I drove the car to work today and it's really annoying. B/c the passenger side is more upright, I'm guessing something is worn on the drivers side that keeps it from locking in a more upright position. I'm going to take a closer look this weekend but on here searching in hopes it was a common issue with an easy fix!

 

many times the issue is ,the seat frame is bent from abuse. the only remedy in that case is to replace the seat.

 

We removed it the other week for a closer inspection and that seems to be the case. The mechanism that allows the multiple seat back settings is bent so that the **** doesn't set in final groove for the upmost seat back angle. I tried "fixing" it by squeezing it back together with channel locks but that didn't last long. The entire thing needs to be replaced and mounting point on opposite side of seat is bent too. Also, rivets that hold seat track to seat frame are loose. I'm guessing a prior owner was a larger person based on these issues.

 

Thanks everyone. I will remove the seat this summer and see what is going on with mine. With the summer heat around here I don't like driving it as it is so hot.

 

Can't you just replace this part?
