Rear Seat Delete

I tried to do a search, because I don't remember if I seen/got the idea here first, but I couldn't find anything.

Has anyone ever done a rear seat delete? They make a kit for 4th and 5th gens, obviously I would fab my own, but I was looking for some good directions / measurements.

Re: Rear Seat Delete

I just don't remember these back seats being so small when I was in Highschool we would cram 5-6 people in my friends 87 Camaro or my other's 88 GTA..

Well, anyway, to an adult these back seats are USELESS IMO. I don't have kids, and if I did, I wouldn't be carting them around in this car anyway. So, why pay $300 to replace the back seats, when I don't want them ( ripped out grey interior completely, redoing in black).. when hopefully for around the same price I can make some more storage?

In the cargo I am going to have a sub box with 2 12's so maybe here I could mount the T-tops, Amps, Cargo, Etc.

Thought, ideas, opinions?

Re: Rear Seat Delete

Would there be any significant weight loss or gain? I don't care either way, just curious.

Re: Rear Seat Delete

I have been thinking about doing it, and putting a storage box there so we are on the same track. I have looked for but not seen a delete kit or thread so I think you are on your own.

Re: Rear Seat Delete

While those kits look good for the 4th gen, why not just take out your back seats or fold down the back pad? Cheaper that way, unless you want to lose weight....

Already ripped all that out and threw away last summer. So, I am re-doing the interior this summer and looking for options. Rather than buy seats I don't want or won't use, I wanted to building something.

My upper back seat was 17lbs.
The individual bottom seat was 4lbs/piece

Re: Rear Seat Delete

I have heard it mentioned that you could cut out the well where the rear seat bottoms were and weld in a flat plate of steel then mount mufflers there.
You could build that box fairly easy, it would just take time. Just get some of the rigid wire garden fence and bend to the shape of the rear seats and lay fiberglass on it until sturdy enough and then cover in carpet. Might cost you $50-75 and a weekends work.
