steering column man/auto differences

PO had replaced the ignition switch/lock cylinder with a non-vats key. When I went to buy a new one for the vats, there were different part numbers for auto and manual trannys. Why? I bought the manual one but I am having doubts. I noticed the current column has a 'key release" off the column the new manual cats lock cylinder has a button. I can get some pics up tomorrow, but hopefully what I describe makes sense. Did I just waste money on the vats manual lock cylinder? Thanks,

Jim

Re: steering column man/auto differences

I think I answered my own question. Pulled the aftermarket grant steering wheel off and it seems a PO swapped in an older steering column. I have a 92 steering wheel/airbag and it will not fit on the column. In addition, the vats and airbag wiring was all disconnected under the dash. Also, no room for the clock spring.

On a good note, I did get the tach working by replacing R4 with a 196k ohm resistor.
