Ashtray 12v Outlet

I decided to add a 12v outlet to where the ashtray goes. Between the GPS, phone charger, etc, might be a good idea to add another outlet.

Picked up a NOS 4th gen cig lighter and outlet complete from ebay. Also bought the element to attach to the bottom of the outlet and will u=run the wire to a constant power source.

Took a piece of 1/8" plexi (scrap), added some tape to the top, traced out the shape and used a jig to cut out the piece. After smoothed out the edges and hole with a file.

Back looks good

Test fit....seems OK. Lots of space for future accessory button. Will paint the back of the plexi so it will look clear when installed.

Only took 30 min or so.

Finished pic. Painted the back side in a satin. Coming thru the plexi, it looks clear and bright.

Length is 5 5/16"

Width is 1 11/16"

Hole diameter is 7/8"

Distance from end to hole lip is 1 1/8"

Don't forget to add the notches to clear the lid hinge.
