I know.....I know......another shifter **** deal

1983 Z28. Auto trans. I even have the service manual (Factory) and I cannot find a break down of the **** parts? Anyway, I have a "C" clip that goes on the shifter lever itself. But, is the clip supposed to be molded into the ****? The **** just slides up and down the lever and there is nothing I can see that would stop it from happening unless that c clip is supposed to be molded into the ****???

Re: I know.....I know......another shifter **** deal

The shifter lever has a slot along the length that extends past where the c-clip goes. The shifter **** is supposed to have a little nodule inside that fits into that slot in the lever.
So the **** is held in-between the c-clip and the nodule sitting on the bottom of the slot.

Ok, I found the issue......I think. I didn't realize the clip had a missing leg, so the **** pulls up when you push down on the button. I ordered a new clip We'll see if that fixes it.

Make one out of a paperclip. It is not a high tech part.

Ok, I did end up getting a new shift **** and now I can see what you folks were saying. There was no outward slot left on the old **** to hold it in place. Thanks for the help, I am good to go.
