Re: 1992 Trans Am GTA - interior (& exterior) restoration

So...I moved out of the country. GTA of course came with no matter how un-practical and expensive it was, which it was

The paint on the tip of the nose was damaged badly (my fault), but will be covered by the front license plate (no way around it here like in CA). The really devastating news is that there are scratches all over the car from inside the shipping container, some pretty deep Allot of places with stuff was rubbing against the car so bad it went right through the paint. This was even with my indoor cover and pillows ALL OVER the outside of the car and making sure not to pack anything that would hurt the paint around it. So much for that.

I have no garage at the house I bought, will have to build one, so for now she is outside with the indoor cover on her. It rains once or twice a day here for just a minute or two usually and it dries out super fast. Still hate having her outside but no choice right now.

Once I can get started on her again in a few weeks I'll post some pictures.

Certainly disappointing when all the time, money, and the headaches that you have gone through to get the paint how you want it...ends up getting damaged anyway. I feel for you. Finding quality and honesty is difficult.

I hope you have a way to keep it safe from hurricanes. Those small islands where you are now take quite a pounding during seaaon.

Re: 1992 Trans Am GTA - interior (& exterior) restoration

UPDATE:

Thanks to the zika virus, this year has been absolutely terrible for the Caribbean. No business are wanting to spend on IT so my business has tanked. I've been busting my *** doing another part-time job but it doesn't even pay all my bills. - Thus, I am going back to CA in a month or so for work. My old boss offered me my old job back with 20hrs a week minimum, which will pay all my bills and then some.

Since I've been hustling for work and money, nothing has been done on the GTA. I did spend some time detailing her, draining gas, adding SeaFoam, adding fresh gas, running the engine, changed the oil, got a proper outdoor cover, etc.

She will be going into the shipping container for hurricane season and there she will stay until who knows when which is kinda scary. I have another job coming up beginning of next year I already interviewed for which will take me all over the world for what could be a couple years.

My biggest enemy, aside from the gas going bad, is MOLD. Mold is a HUGE problem. Tons of stuff in our shipping container has grown a **** ton of mold. I'm going to keep my car sealed with the outdoor cover on and I'm thinking about filling the interior with moth *****? Will that stop mold?

how about one of those "car covers" that zips up? my friend calls his a taco, lol.

You open it, drive onto it and then fold the flap over the car and zip it closed. Also maybe get some of those dessicant packages to absorb moisture. Not the size that comes in shoes and whatnot, but the ones for vehicles, it is the size of a salami. Throw a few of those into the car inside the closed cover

Oh lol. Well she's staying there and not coming back but I don't think there is enough room in the container plus no way for me to get power to it for the motors. Plus the container is like a damp humid place all on it's own so this things ventilation would be screwed. Too late for me to bring one from the states in my suitcase anyway.

Oh you must be talking about one of the fan ventilated car covers. My friends is not powered, it doesn't blow up and is outdoor rated.

If you buy the desicants it should help a lot with the moisture. I have one, it works and they are "re-chargable", you put them in the oven after they are saturated and bake the water out

That makes sense.

Only problem with desiccants though is no one will be able to do the re-charging except me when I make it back there. Which may only be every summer.

I'd offer to go and do it for you if you paid for everything of the trip, but I hate the tropics

Re: 1992 Trans Am GTA - interior (& exterior) restoration

So she is ready for the container, fresh Redline oil and RP filter I brought down with me, got all the old gas out and new gas in with SeaFoam fuel stabilizer. Some how tho the wiring in the rear view mirror went haywire and the map lights came on no matter what position the switch was it. It took my brand new Optima down to 0.01v. I tried bringing it back, which I did, but it only lasted 2 days. RIP expensive Optima.

I'll get a rear end shot to post before I seal the container

I should be back in the US in about 3 weeks, then I pick up a 1969 Firebird I spent the last of my savings on. But hey, gotta have a car to drive, and it has new Vintage air

Yeah I think I'm going to put an Odyssey in my 69 and see how that goes.
