Okay so I pulled 3 turn signal/wiper arm/cruise switches from pick n pull in about 5 minutes. One was from a fourth gen and the other two were other GM cars. I pulled it out based on info from a post here on TGO and it came out fine, and the cruise wires came out far enough to see the connector. Super easy to undo! Are our cars the same? I have read a few posts about it but haven't seen a picture of the connector or anything like that. When I try to remove mine, the lever pulls out nicely but the wires only go so far and I don't see the connector. Is it supposed to come out farther? Or is the connector somewhere else on third gens

Also if someone has a pic of the connector that would be awesome so I can make sure the one I got is the right one

 

The wiring connector for the Cruise control in your car is a "blade' type connector. it does not look like any other connector in the whole car. The wire is a single black wire (with several small gauge wires inside it) and the connection to the dash wiring is located at the BASE of the column. To get your cruise/turn/directional stalk off the 85 column you must "snake" that black wire and blade connector ALL THE WAY THRU the column.

Starting somewhere around 90 GM changed the turn stalk so that a very short length of wires and very small connector was used. This allowed the connector to become visible at the top of the column thru the hole used to mount the stalk. These newer direction stalks are not directly compatible with your 85.
