Complete dash removal

How hard is it to remove the entire dash i got a couple of stress cracks over by the map pouch and when u go to open the map pouch the cracks push out i wanna repair it instead of replacing the dash since i dont have another i was thinking of removing it and putting some kinda of cement to make it not pull out and totally make a whole what is a good way of fixing this

Re: Complete dash removal

Dash removal is a pretty big job. Lots of screws, and potential to break 27 year old plastic. Not sure what the crack looks like, but could you fix it with epoxy while the dash is still in the car?

Lots of wires!
Some advise: 7mm and 10mm screws
Name every connector!
Take lots of pics
Take your time
Be prepared to break tabs(old plastic)
May need to drop the steering column down for more clearance.

You can dismount the dash without disconnecting the harness to pull it out far enough to get behind that structure.
You will want to lower the column and pull the dash pad, console and radio pod. May have to disconnect the headlight switch, they have a short lead. Lots of screws!
Use plastic weld type epoxy and reinforcing mesh to repair.

Re: Complete dash removal

The dash plastic is difficult to epoxy, have to scuff it well and use reinforcing mesh. The plastic is super thin so it doesn't give much strength. I happen to have a mint firebird dash frame just became available. I can ship it and sometimes I am in MA. Pm me if you are interested.

Re: Complete dash removal

It should work, I have been eyeing a new one for my car because I have had it in and out so many times that it started developing stress crack where the connectors are housed. My car is digital and I have been eyeing a dash carrier from an analog car.

Easiest way to find out, take off the headlight and odometer bezels and then pop the dash off. It should take you a good half hour if you are careful. Then compare to the dash you are prepping.
