1989 red interior color question

Hi all, my 1989 iroc has the black paint, red interior color combo, which I find to be cool as hell. With that said, I have a really simple question:

The car is vintage 1989, with the exception of in 1994, the original owner (who owned it new until 2012 when he sold it to my dad) took it back to the dealer and had them install the factory 5 speed setup with all chevrolet parts (console and everything). It's an original L98 that had an automatic, and he wanted a 5 speed. So they did it for him. The problem for me is that the original console door with the RPO code sticker is gone as a result.

All this leads me to is: what color red do I have? I've heard of 2 reds; Carmine Red and Flame Red. I've also heard conflicting years they were used. There are 2 different shades in the car. The plastic seems to be a darker red, while all the upholstery itself (floor carpet too) is of a brighter shade. The original interior looks good, but it's 25 years old and i'd like to redo it to it's former awesomeness. Any ideas?

The White Book lists it as just plain code 72 Red. IIRC, Carmine is the darker shade, and was used on earlier cars. I would guess Flame Red would be the correct shade for '89, but I would go by the color code (72) more than anything else.

72 would be the color code for Dark Carmine ,I don't know the code for the Red.

Re: 1989 red interior color question

What is it you are trying to replace? Carpet? Plastics? Seats? ...keep in mind that once it's restored, it's no longer "original". I like my car's color and interior to be "look" original, so I'm 100% for what you're doing, but keep in mind that it's not like you're hurting value if it's slightly the wrong shade.

....that being said, if you're doing carpet, pick all the reds you can find and get samples. take out the rear seat, and that carpet underneath should be pretty darn close to original. ....no different with seat upholstery. Get samples. I have a sample of every ACC carpet color remotely close to Medium Beechwood. Trust me, very few interior colors match reproduction parts 100%. Even getting the proper name and RPO will STILL mean getting samples and matching.....and making choices.

...that being said, I would want to know the proper code and name also, if only for my own piece of mind.
