Door panel helpppp

So I've read the clips that hold the top of door panel down too lower part of door panel often are removed wrong as I can see on mine I want to replace both inner and outter window seals that run on upper door along each side of window. My question is I can see where the door panel holes have been reemed out behind upper black plastic piece on inside from upper door panel piece being moved. Will I need new door panels? Or can I just get new clips to hold upper piece down and replace the seal itself without replacing plastic black top piece. Also if you're reading Vin on side of door the seal above that where back of window meets is pretty ate up but can't find the seal or name of it anywhere.

What is the name of the seal that needs replaced or is it just part of the weatherstripping? And what else needs replaced on either upper or lower door panel to be in proper working order again?

That would be the door weather stripping,it's comes in one piece. If I recall Fairchild brand is the only one that comes with that plastic piece incorporated into the rubber, just like the originals,I could be wrong though.I suggest you get the Fairchild brand for the doors.

Most likely salvageable,When I replaced mine I used a strip of Duck Tape over the back of the door sill.Do you still have the nuts on the sill? and is the fasteners still attached to the sill itself?

Re: Door panel helpppp

Man I just went through this on my 88 last weekend; about 16 hours. The whole car. Its a job. Got the complete set from 1AAuto, inners, outters, hatch, uppers, and lowers. They were Soft Seal.
The plastic was not incorporated into the door seal ends, but use the screws and 3M adhesive in those spots; looks spot on.

On you upper inner plastic and door panels, take some stiff cardboard and run across the torn out holes and saturate the cardboard with Gorilla Glue. Once dry, drill out the new holes as necessary. I had to repair 2 holes. Worked like a champ. Then add the molding.

Good luck with your project!

Re: Door panel helpppp

For future reference, the top piece on the door panels should never have been removed separately. That will destroy the holes every time. Besides, it is so much easier to remove the entire door panel in one piece.
The way I repair the pulled out holes is to re-install the black armrest portion to the door panel as well as you can, hopefully you still have the nuts, then saturate the whole area around the nuts and holes with epoxy glue. Works for me.

Re: Door panel helpppp

Most likely your molding has broken studs.you can get a new set from 1A,they come complete ready to install with the inner sweeps.
