VIN access
So I traded for this 3rd gen camaro, it was a junkyard build and it shows. I went to get it registered and they needed to do a VIN inspection so I had to get the car to the DMV, alas it did not start again. I've since got it started but the VIN plate on the dash is so corroded that it's illegible. I was wondering if there's a way to access the plate (without removing the whole dash) to clean it up a bit.

Re: VIN access
Possible other locations are door sticker if original door, rpo code sticker, maybe the old inspection sticker if it has one. I'm surprised there's no under hood firewall plate.
But no, it's riveted in place, you could prolly get to it to clean it good just taking the pad off.
But if it is having issues not starting then getting it registered and on the road might not be the best priority at the moment.

Re: VIN access
Going through a VIN replacement myself... Long story short: Car stolen then recovered (after 1 year),public (dash) VIN was swapped, stolen/recovered in Ohio with Texas plates (moved to Ohio)...
I am having to get an out of state inspection (Texas title) and VIN replacement.. reason I am commenting is because I was told they are removing the windshield to do the VIN replacement .. "only way to access that plate on that year range" .. That is what I was told... looks pretty close.

Re: VIN access
It starts I just need a longer starter cable for it So I can change battery terminal.
I'll have to give it a try taking the dash pad off.

Re: VIN access
And yes it does have the core support tag. The car is pieced together from what appears to be two different cars. So the doors are different. Idk if the tag on the door jamb is still there.
Idk that the dmv will take the one on the radiator support. I was told they won't. So that leaves me with trying to clean up the Vin plate on the dash.
