Anyone try recovering sail panels?

Just curious if anyone out there has tried recovering their torn sail panels? If so, were you successful?

If you are talking about the speaker covers, yes I have. Piece of cake. Get the material from Classic Industries and some 3M spray adhesive and do it. Mine turned out fantastic. But I'm a perfectionist so I took my time!

Re: Anyone try recovering sail panels?

I recovered mine last winter. I got the material from the local JoAnn fabric store, and some 3m spray adhesive from Walmart. It was really easy to do, but my panels were plastic, not the crappy fiberboard stuff I've seen in other thirdgens.

Before I covered them, I took a large plastic tree clip, like the ones used to hold the insulation to the underside of the hood and glued it to the panel where the clothes hook screw went though the hold the panel in place. Then I put the covering on it. Now I've got a nice smooth sail panel with no ugly hook there that I never used.

Thanks for the ideas. I'll try using my old Don Johnson jacket to recover those panels!

Re: Anyone try recovering sail panels?

Be sure the material you are covering is smooth as glass = sanding/etc.
because the spray adhesive will show every bump and line under it.

I just folded the material over the edges and secured it along the inside edge using close clips and glue.

Re: Anyone try recovering sail panels?

I thought about carpet, cause mine were grey and didn't match the black interior, but decided that seemed a little thick and I didn't want to muffle the speakers at all. I ended up rattle canning them black, turned out good.
