Differences between dash shells
I'm looking for a good dash shell - the big plastic piece that the gauges and ac ducts are in for my 89 IROC. I see listings for 82-86 and 90-92. I know there were some dash changes in 90-92, but are 87-89 shells unique? If so how? Does anyone know of a stash of NOS ones that are totally brittle and cracked from the heat and age?

Re: Differences between dash shells
The 87-89 Camaro version had a small back-light mounted under the center dash vents for additional lighting to the console area. They are similar to 82-86 dash housings in all other ways.

Yes, 90-92 has the light too, but the 90-92 Camaro dash housing is unlike the 82-89 style & not directly interchangeable ( plug & play ) with 82-89 housings. The mounting brackets welded to the body that hold the dash housing in place were changed to accommodate the new for 90 interior.

Re: Differences between dash shells
Are the places to bolt the 82-89 dash still on 90-92 firewalls? or does there need to be welding in order to put the older dash in a newer Camaro? I recently bought a 91 Camaro shell but, I need to install a pre-90 dash as I need a mechanical speedo cable for my project

Re: Differences between dash shells
The compatibility range = 82-89 and 90-92. If you are trying to put a 86 dash housing into a 90 ( for example ) you will need to remove the original 86 Dash housing mounting brackets and Install the 90-92 dash housing mounting brackets.

I should still have a couple sets of various brackets in the garage. If you need them for your conversion,... just let me know what year you need them for and include your ZIP in your reply.

Re: Differences between dash shells
the plan is to put the 87 dash in the 91 unless I pull it out and there something wrong with it. I was just going to use the brackets out of the 87 but if you already have them....
Any horrible reason I shouldn't just bolt the brackets on like you did? any excessive squeaking/movement?
