turn signal lever replacement question with intermittent wippers

Need some advice

Our 85 z-28 turn signal lever shows it has intermittent wipers, but does not (only 3 positions - off, low, high)... my guess is someone switched a cover at some point... It also has cruise and it functions properly...

So, I'm curious (as I'm a Jeep guy and getting back to F-body cars)...
Is the intermittent wiper controlled by the switch alone or is there additional parts required.
I'm getting ready to pull the wheel soon and figured if It's a swap, I'll just get the right part and do it at the same time....

Thanks

fyi - i tried to search... didn't come up with anything...

You're not alone. Same issue here but haven't gone looking into it yet. Hope someone can shed some light on this.

At the very least there's extra wiring for the intermittent features & the wiper motor cover has a circuit board for this function as well.Maybe even the motor itself too.

OK, so how can I tell if my car came with intermittent wipers or just standard wipers?

any thoughts on that?

Re: turn signal lever replacement question with intermittent wippers

I think they called it pulse, and you would either need to look inside the wiper switch on the steering wheel or in the motor module.
The switch has some resistors in it which the non pulse does not. The switch also has 4 different switches in it and the non has only 3.
As 81 4LE said, the wiper motor module has a solid state timer in it which the non-pulse does not.
Unfortunately the wires to the connector under the dash and on the motor module are colored the same and go to the same location in the connector.

Re: turn signal lever replacement question with intermittent wippers

If it has cruise control I would think it has to have intermittent wipers. Don't think cruise came without it??
Anyone know about that?

We have cruise with out the pulse wipers, there are two different stalks available.

My guess is that a previous owner had a busted turn signal stalk and replaced it with the wrong type. The "pulse" system has 3 major parts,... the wiper motor/cover, the lever itself and the switch inside the column.

If your turn stalk shows DELAY, but there is no delay settings available when you try to turn the stalk then the switch inside the column is a non-delay type. ( probably the motor/cover too ) When a delay stalk is mounted on a non-delay car LOW and HIGH will work, but nothing happens when the lever is set to in delay mode,...... the wiper just stops where-ever it is in the glass at that time.

Re: turn signal lever replacement question with intermittent wippers

I had swapped the column in my 86 Iroc.Car came equipped with non delay wipers.New column was from a delay wiper car.A regular stalk did not work.Had to put a delay stalk in and as john in ri stated above it will only work on low and high. The delay feature does nothing
