Anyone ever used SEM Color Coat?
Anyone tried this on interior plastics? I know a lot of guys use the PPG dye but was wondering if anyone has tried this stuff? I know SEM makes good products.

I have a buddy who used it on his 2nd gen Bandit TA with the tan/beechwood/camel whatever you call it brown interior. Came out amazing, but as with all paint and coating, it's all about the prep. Follow directions to the letter.
I think there's various threads on here too, but that's my only firsthand experience. Just search SEM.

SEM is the best from what I've heard. See this thread https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/inte...ic-carpet.html

Hi, I have used it with great success on several cars. I use an unorthodox cleaning method. I clean the plastic parts with lacquer thinner. This softens the plastic and the SEM paint adheres great and has never come off. Many years ago I did the vinyl seats in a Cherokee Jeep and to this day they look new. Use at your discretion.

Louis, do you also use an adhesion promoter or just the lacquer thinner to soften? Interesting idea..

I used SEM on the rear panels in my vert. Went from a grey to a black. Very satisfied with the SEM and definitely recommend it. I clean them with soapy water and then alcohol. I then scuff them with a red scotch bright pad and prep them with acetone. After painting the vinyl it did not feel crinkly but it can be scratched if a sharp edge is dragged across it with pressure.

Used it on mine also, going from grey to black. Great stuff and it works well on leather too.

Use an adhesion promoter. The paint won't scratch off as easily. My painting routine is - scrub with scotchbrite and a degreaser like simple green. Rub it down with acetone, or a plastic prep spray. Then shoot with Bulldog Adhesion promoter. Wait for it to get tacky and then paint.

If I recall they ask you to check with acetone (or something) to determine what type of plastic you have (they say 2 various ones) and 1 requires 1 of their products in particular and the other a different kind of their product. Find the PDF, it notes specifics. I'm happy with mine. Black to Palomino... there were pics on this board, but Photobucket no longer displays it...

From what I can see in garage light it's real close. I used the Satin Black color.
Finished all my plastics this weekend and got them carpeted. Man the interior is coming out nice. I can't wait for Spring to start driving her.. It's gonna turn some heads..
