New Dash Pad questions

So got a nice crack in my dash...seen this on Camaro Central and it looks exact I AM minus the mounting holes are not pre drilled ...anyone know away to drill these and getting them right the first time and not screw up a 600 dash pad?...I guess make a template but out of what?

Also...anywhere to ship it to get repaired...Iv read some older post and some say it's cheaper to buy a new dash...others say it's worth it...some say the repairs don't look good etc...but that was from 2012 I believe on here...better places to get repairs done these days or advances in the repair processes

Re: New Dash Pad questions

Have you researched the OER dash pads? I have not heard good things about them personally. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/afte...otal-junk.html

IMO your best bet unfortunately is still to try to find a good used original, and hope for the best when shipping.

Re: New Dash Pad questions

Yeah...well I called Camaro central. Finally got around to that...they assured me that they were the exact same as the ones we have. Made from the same material...have the same texture and design as ours. Said the speaker cut outs are there defrost etc...I tend to believe the guy, for $600 it better be the exact right one. I'v heard some mix things on repairs...some people said I could have a professional place use the staple method to repair the crack etc...but honestly the material in general will only continue to wear down from what I am told...and I think its probably best to eventually just get a new one. I'm fairly confident that Camaro central is telling the truth and being honest...they sell a lot of OEM stuff that I personally have not seen else where, with the quality being better. I just cant justify getting a repair done...when you can see there was a repair done, make sense.

Re: New Dash Pad questions

easiest way is to put the old dash over the new one and using a poking tool, score where you need the holes to go.

Re: New Dash Pad questions

Camaro central pad is just the same OER BRAND pad everyone sells online. These guys sell the same pad for $455.

IIRC - it is not the same material. The old one had an inner foam core that had a vinyl skin wrapped around. OER's version uses a one step self skinning urethane. Most modern dash pads use this process. There are comparison threads here. Check them out before you buy.

I hear the grain is similar and the fit is great...not too much worried about the innards...??? I read of there website they use the exact factory way...maybe u can check to see as well. I plan on calling OER after the holidays....

Re: New Dash Pad questions

Found this on Hawks, maybe Scott u can verify or help clarify what this process means?

http://www.hawksmotorsports.com/dash...2-92-dash-pad/

This is a reproduction dash pad for all 82-92 Camaro models. Manufactured using the factory factory process of molded urethan and wrapped in vinyl for an original appearance. Dash pad features the cut outs for the windshield defrosters, side window defrosters and the stereo speakers. NOTE: It does not come with the actual vents for the side window defrosters. If you have a 1982 model, note it does not have the indented line in the front which is an appearance line so it will not affect the installation.

Everything look about the same as the original ones...grain etc on it? What was the noticable difference cosmetically??? And shape wise
