Not sure where to post this, but I can't be the only one who has this issue. I'm TERRIFIED of spiders. Absolutely traumatized.
Regardless of where I park my car at home, may it be the underground or outside, it gets filled with spiders. I have a newer Mustang that I've never had this problem with, and none of my past cars either. I'll be driving and one will start swinging down from the ttop or scampering across the dash at me, and I've had to stop traffic a few times to get out and smash it. Does anyone have this happen or have any idea why there are SO many in just this particular car? Any remedies to detour them from moving in? Not even kidding guys, this is a serious problem and I'm getting close to just setting the car on fire.

I remember driving to work one day around 1988 in my '82 z28 and suddenly having ants crawling all over me. Apparently I left some food in the car the night before and they made their way into the car to have at it-they were everywhere!. Needless to say I made it to work in record time and after talking it over with my buddies (mechanics ) we decided on a plan of action. I walked across the street and purchased a "Hot Shot" insect room fogger, rolled up the windows, placed it on the center console and let 'er rip!
Ants nuked !

Does it smell or stain or anything?? Corrosive to wiring??

I'm sure it stunk all to be damned for a while but I most likely wiped down the entire car when I got it home, don't recall any staining. Not sure if it is corrosive to the wiring but I don't remember having any electrical issues with it following the great fogging incident of '88!

I think I'd rather have to re-do all the wiring than have another 8 legged monster get stuck in my hair. I'm going to see if I can track down some of that stuff
They say that statistically you are never more than 6 feet from a spider.
I think perhaps counseling or some type of therapy to slowly introduce spiders and get you used to their presence. Generally speaking the vast majority of them are harmless. Steer clear of the ones that are brightly colored. They give no f*cks - that's why no camo.
I've used a bug fogger when I had my old Explorer. There were ants all under the trim, seats, and in the weather stripping when I bought it. I think it took me two cans of the stuff before they stopped showing up again. I would just be sure to do a nice interior wipe and vacuum to make sure nothing stains and all the dead bugs are gone.
You could try sealing things up, keeping things clean, those paper glue traps, spray the area where you keep the car for bugs... Around here we have Brown Recluse and we've had a few Black Widows around. Every few months the pest control folks come out and spray. Stuff they use kills anything that comes with 3 feet of the foundation. The consumer grade stuff isn't as effective, but it works. Get the concentrate, mix with water per the label in a garden sprayer, do all the way round the baseboards in your garage, any dark corners, it'll reduce the bugs you see alive, but you'll feel like you're walking around on fortune cookies.
I don't understand why spiders love this particular car so much. There's no food or other bugs in it, it's clean, and it gets driven, I just don't get it. I can't drive the thing without having to smash/brush away at least 2 or 3 spiders every single time
Don't get a fogger. Get Raid Fumigator. It's dry, it's clean, you won't have to cover anything, and it leaves a sweet scent behind. Foggers leave an oily residue on everything.
Your car is either a food source or a breeding ground. No other explanation, really. If it's a breeding ground, hopefully spiders don't return to the same place year-after-year, like many of nature's other critters.
I never thought about eggs. I keep my car very clean, and there's never any food or anything in it to begin with, never mind left over. All the spiders seem to be the same kind too, so they must be hatching somewhere In totally unrelated news .. I have a GTA for sale ..
Im dealing with the same thing, but I just bought the car. It has been sitting outside in the grass for a year. Ive seen many little ones but this morning had a widow hanging from the gfx. I closed the garage, opened the hood and windows and set off double the amount of foggers for that space. Killed all the hidden ones in the garage for sure. Guess ill find out in the next few days if it worked on the car
I'm a fan of glue traps. If you have an infestation, they may not be a total cure. But no fumes, no smell, no stains. I use a few of the big rat sized ones in the garage. I don't ever see bugs in the garage, but I sure find them on those traps.
If I were going to try them in the car, I wouldn't drive with them in there. Just set them in there when you park for the night, and take them out during the day. They are (as advertised) VERY sticky. You wouldn't want to accidentally touch one, have wind flip it over on the carpet, etc.
A couple years ago I squished a large spider and it was like a horror movie with what seemed like thousands of fast little spiders scattering in every direction. Apparently some kinds of spiders carry the babies on their back for a little while.
Don't let that story creep you out or anything. It's just for informative purposes.
Haven't had a chance to grab some bug killer yet, but decided to take the car out for a bit yesterday and I made it 4 blocks before someone came running across the windshield frame. Pulled over, soaked the car in gas, lit a match, and that's all she wrote. Rather walk home
I've fought this battle in my house.
If you do not use a professional exterminator...
First carb cleaner and a torch will ruin your suede and damage any nearby paint.
Use spider specific sticky traps to collect the abominations
Use peppermint extract to keep them out, reapply monthly.
Just came across this online, might be worth a shot. I use peppermint in my RV to keep out mice, not sure if it's responsible but I've not had any mice or bugs in it-ever. "Spiders hate peppermint and citrus and will avoid those areas. Swab some oil around your side view mirrors, and mix 20 drops of oil with 1.5 cups of water to spray inside your vehicle like air freshener."
Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to try out any of the suggestions that you guys posted in here, as I just sold the car However, keep them rolling because clearly I'm not the only person to have infestations in their car!
Try " PREMETHRIN." It is great, you mix it with water and it doesn't have a strong smell. Spray mist the carpet and such and any type of bug will not go near. I haven't used it in a car but I do in my house, yard, and shop for spiders and such and its the best ive ever used.

So this seems to have worked for me. Car has been spider free since.
years ago while on vacation in NM at wife's grandparents we found a tarantula in the bathtub (was sunken in the back yard) it took me a while to decide to pick it up (they say if you dont pissem off theyre OK with being handled) well I finally did and was surprised how light it was. no issues. while I dont care for spiders they do eat bugs so I'm Ok leaving them be, and the thing about humans eating 8 a year is hoo ha a myth
Every once in awhile I get tired of all of the spiders in my little wooden garage that I keep the 82 in. It's pretty sealed up with every crack and crevice foamed, but they go under the doors and start filling it up over time. I get brown recluses here bad. I simply go out, start the engine, close the doors, put towels at the bottom of the doors and go have a beer. You cannot see exhaust escaping the building. After about 30-35 minutes, I put on my respirator, open the doors, go in and pull the car out and let the building air out for a couple of hours. Every spider in the building is dead along with all the wasps and everything else that was in there.
