Air bag steering wheel

Has anyone refurb'd an air bag steering wheel or know of a source that does this? The one I've got is worn and "spongy".

Re: Air bag steering wheel

Some upholstery shops will recover them, but unless you're looking for a perfect/brand new covering, it's MUCH cheaper to just find a used one. I bought an entire steering column complete with all electricals, turn signal stalk, ignition cylinder/key, and a fairly nice condition steering wheel/airbag for under $200 with shipping. Most shops charge $3-400 just to recover a wheel. As far as the airbag itself, they're sealed, so there's nothing you can do with them other than replace the entire assembly.

I think there may be someone here on the boards that recovers steering wheels for slightly less than that, maybe they'll chime in.

Re: Air bag steering wheel

I was mostly concerned about the spongy part. I'm probably just going to pitch it and do aftermarket and delete the airbag.
