Is a tilt/non-tilt steering column interchangeable?

I'm renovating my 85 TransAm and had to pull the column because a part broke inside. I couldn't get the sleeve off without destroying it. I'm thinking I need to buy a new column. I found one nearby but it is non-tilt and mine was a tilt. Does that matter? Could I use it for the interim and then replace with a tilt? Any help is much appreciated as I'm new to this (but loving every minute).

It will bolt in the same. It may not be an exact match for wiring such as wiper controls, cruise, and radio. The plugs should be the same with less or more wires in them.

Where are you located? If you're near northeast Indiana I can help you out.
