Dash and gauge cluster removal - strange gauge plugs?

I'm currently in the process of remove the entire dash from my '89 and I not sure how to unhook these strange plugs on the back of the gauge cluster. Anyone know how to unplug these? I thought I'd ask before I totally destroy something. The strange thing about these is that the barbs on the plugs are going the wrong way, so they were designed to be inserted from the other side. Also, there is no socket on the board, just pins. I tried prying out the lower brown colored one and saw the PCB flexing, which didn't look good...

Remove the screws from the front of the cluster, leave the wiring in the dash.

The "tabs" your looking at are used to remove the plug from the housing AFTER the dash cluster is removed.

The cluster is removed from the front,...... so you've got to pull off the cluster bezels, remove the screws holding the cluster in place, then pull the cluster off the dash housing from the front. The plugs will remain in place on the dash housing after the cluster is removed.
