My odometer buttons works but not the backlight. How do you replace the bulb/bulbs behind those four buttons?

I think there is a thread in this forum about that but I cant find it

 

Just remove that section and pull the screen gently from the socket and replace the bulb

 

It's not the lcd screen backlight. It's the backlight for the buttons. I managed to replace all bulbs in the dash this spring but now I realized that these four buttons doesn't light up like the others.

 

Is it one bulb/lightsource for each of the four buttons or do they share the same bulb? Its har to tell if you look at it från behind

 

I'm not sure if the lights in those buttons are the same, but I replaced the backlights lights in my fog light, defroster and hatch release buttons. They look similar though.

I was able to carefully take the switch apart, unsolder the bulb and solder in a new one. I matched up the bulb by measuring it with a dial caliper and also measuring the resistance of a working bulb and calculating the wattage. I don't know the bulb model number since I did this a long time ago and don't have a record of it.

 

I managed to take the buttons apart. They share one bulb. It´s marked "73". I´ve been searching the net and it seems to be a t5 bulb 1.2w. Is 73 always approx a 1.2w bulb or is it possible that it is a brighter bulb?

 

I don’t remember the wattage rating of the bulbs that I used as replacement, but I similarly had to figure out the closest wattage rating and find a bulb that was close in size and wattage.

if you have one good existing bulb, you can take a resistance reading using a multimeter and then calculate the wattage. Read the resistance in ohms and the formula is

P=(V^2)/ohm
Where: P=power (watts), V=volts

 

Pretty sure that the #73 bulb is the same bulb that was used in the 95?-02 S10, Blazer, S15, and Sonoma truck visor vanity mirrors. That's the same (push type - not soldered bulb) bulb I search thru junkyards for to use inside the 80's Thirdgen Delco Radios.
