That’s the one. I knew I could count on you 😃 Thanks for the reply
In my dash there are 168:s and in your 194:s. Strange. As far as I could tell the 168 is a bit brighter than 194
To my knowledge the 168 is 3 candle power, and the 194 is 2 cp, which is consistent with your findings. I'm not totally sure, which one of these were originally in the dash as I removed the bulbs and replaced them with some high power LEDs.

No, but you might have to remove the two nuts that hold the steering wheel up so you can lower the whole steering wheel column.

Usually this is a bad connection on the pins, try to clean them, that usually does the trick
This kinda looks like a GE882 "Printed Circuit Socket". You probably removed this bulb from behind the pressure gages, right? In that case it is the hidden generator lamp which is not used as a back light but only for the alternator as a starting resistor.
If you got it from behind the indicator lights then it's just a printed socket base for the respective 168/194 or 74 bulb
Thanks to you I got the spare odometer going on the work bench. It seems fully functional. Better than the one in the car. If I want to put this one in the car, all I have to do is to swith the odometer chip. Right?
And is it a possibility to just remove the DIC and the Odometer and leave the other part of the dash in place. And then wiggle out the bulb from the inside?
By the way, have you polished your lcd screens? I wonder what to use?
Last question? Do you have a link to the leds you used? There are many types of 194 led out there...
Many questions. But without everything you have published I would never been able to do this. Thanks Cehbra!

Exactly! Make sure the EEPROM's notch is on the same side as it was.
Cool that you got that up and running on the bench!

No, don't do that! If you remove the screws that hold the dash and lower the steering wheel column you can just remove the whole thing and you get access to all the bulbs from behind the dash. The other way around carries the risk of breaking one of those fragile LCDs.

I haven't tackled that yet as I fear I might destroy the foil. I'm interested in your experiences though.

I have used different kinds of LEDs, and most seem to work well, if in doubt go for the brightest ones, warm white gives a more stock looking appearance than neutral or cold white. Don't use CanBus-LEDs. Here are some links, all of them work well:
I’ve tried Displex plastic polish on the DIC LCD screen. I think it worked perfect. But I must say that I take no responsibility if you try. I tested under the button since the screen continues under the button. So this spot is hidden. Perfect for a test.
Some ot the other screens seems to be painted though. They might be harder to polish.
