I can't seem to disconnect the wiring from the center console glove box light. This is the last thing I have to do to get the top plate off. Do I have to cut the wires to get it out? Does not seem to be any connector on it. I grabbed some pictures from this site to show what I'm talking about.
My 84 TA has a light like this but the setup doesn’t look like that picture. On mine, there is a connector that plugs into the light switch piece. There are little tabs on each side you have to depress to remove the connector. The picture you posted doesn’t seem to have those.
The switch your showing must be from a 91-92 Firebird because 82 - 90 used the same switch battmann is showing.you need to follow the wires and look for the plug(connector)i highly doubt that you have to cut wires.

Yes, my car is a 1992 as shown in my first picture. There is no connector as it goes into a wrap just after the light. Looks like the individual terminals were just plugged in to the base. I will take more time an look closer to figure this out.
have you tried unwrapping the wires a little? maybe a previous owner cut and connected the wires without the proper connector. just an assumption. doesn't make sense for GM to not have an easily accessible connector near the switch in case it ever needed replacement.
Here is the actual unit from my car. You can see the wires are connected right to the switch/lamp and the go right to the harness which also runs the SIR cable and the purple wire from the hand brake. The white clip folds down to hold the pins in place.
