As we all know, the door panels on these cars are well, cardboard. Water n cardboard dont play well. Not only water, but 30 years can take its toll on even the nicest car. I'm currently in the process of finishing my car and am on the door panels. Some of the slotted holes on the top where the plastic sill trim attaches tear, from various reasons. This is a CHEAP way to repair them. I used some duct work tin and cut some strips, drilled holes and riveted them on. Main reason I went this way is the fabric is tough to find and I like the pattern. Could of gotten new panels from classics but again, pattern. So here ya go. Easy, quick and effective.
Oh, this could be done for any of the holes on the panel. I do recommend using aluminum rivets, 1/8 ×1/4 long. I did take rivets apart and ground them down a touch to get the length dialed in.
Also, a trick getting those quick nuts off is to either drill a hole in the end of a allen wrench to accept plastic stud or i used a pair of snap ring pliers, reversed so opening, lodged points in the corners of the nuts and backed them out. Gently put a flat blade screwdriver behind nut and panel to help walk it off the stud.
