Have to hit hatch release multiple times!?!

So I just finished installing a new hatch pull down motor and housing. Once I put it back together (mostly) I tested everything to ensure it’s good. Other then the motor making a rattling noise on the way up and the release button, it seems to be working well.

Before the change I had to hit the release button on my center counsel twice to get it to pop up. Now I have to hit it three times. Big deal? Probably not, it’s just annoying. Any suggestions on the cause?

Thanks!

Check the connections at the switch end, try bypassing it and see if you can get a reliable one shot activation. It's possible that the switch itself is faulty, or experiencing a poor connection / compromised wires.

Mine did that at first when I replaced the plastic gear. A week later it was fine

You mean to get it to activate? Or to get the hatch to release?

If it takes several tries to get the solenoid to click / activate, you prolly got dirty contacts somewhere.... if its activating the solenoid but not opening, it could be worn struts not pushing the hatch open

Re: Have to hit hatch release multiple times!?!

Thanks for the feedback. When press the button I hear click, nothing…click, nothing…click and it pops right up (replaced struts last year).

I have always had to press it twice to get it to go (always heard two clicks). Now it’s 3.

Not sure if it has anything to do with the replaced pull down motor, but I would doubt it. I did notice a few one of the wires was chewed a bit and am wondering if that’s the culprit.

try hold the button down a little longer? im not sure how it works, but i think if you are too fast it won;t send a long enough signal?

My reversing switch went bad so I put a manual switch under the license plate. If I get it down too tight I have to hit the console switch a couple times, or get out and raise the hatch a bit and use the remote. Maybe your hatch is being pulled down too tight?

You don't have to guess what is the problem. Take a multimeter and probe a few points in the circuit and see what device isn't passing voltage. It should be extremely easy to troubleshoot since it is so repeatable.

This could be possible. It does seem to seal pretty tight. Im not sure I want to mess with that motor anymore at this point since it seems to be working. I suppose I’ll just live with it for now until it breaks again…
