'88 Firebird Seat Rail Disassembly
Title says it all, and I realize it might be a dumb idea.
Has anyone tried or successfully disassembled their seat adjustment rails to clean them up and/or lube them? I'd like to do both of those things before reinstalling on the seat, but it's very obvious to me that they were never designed to be taken apart or taken apart easily.
If it matters, I have the standard passenger rails but the 4-way adjustable set for the driver seat.
I'm open to any tips or chastising someone has. Thanks!

I tried...its not easy...
The best you can do IMO is sand paint the visible parts and mask off then grease the sliding parts.

Super delayed reply, but thank you for your reply! I ended up doing pretty much exactly what you had suggested, though I did end up with some paint in places I'd rather it weren't.
I'll run some paint stripper in those spots and grease and hope for the best.

No real need to take them apart. I bead-blasted mine, painted them with semi-fllat black (the factory left them bare metal), and put a small amount of grease on the sliding mechanisms...

Re: '88 Firebird Seat Rail Disassembly
Last Saturday & Sunday, I removed the seat rails from my '84 T/A. sanded & cleaned the rust form them, then clearcoated. I dripped a lot of oil down each end of each rail - middle where the plastic rollers are & each edge & also on the ball bearings. Do not try to take apart. U may have to place the rails in a vice & work them in and out to loosen up.
