Excessive gap between radio pod and center console?

I've finally gotten around to putting the interior back together in my '86 Trans Am, and after getting the center console and radio pod installed they have a huge gap between them. Is there a simple fix to this? What am I doing wrong? The radio pod seems to be in correctly, is it possible my center console is too warped? There's also a large gap between the bottom heater vents and the vents in the radio pod, is that normal?

As far as I know, that radio pod to console gap is normal.

That's too much gap. I think you need to get a little more angry and stuff that center console further forward. Mine never tucks in easy, always have to give it a good push for the rear bolts to line up.

It's pushed as far forward as it can, the bracket underneath the shifter plate is bolted tight to the shifter bracket itself. The rear bolts bolt in just fine. I wonder if there's any adjustment on that bracket?

That's not too bad, maybe if you fix up the console(re glue) the babric back where it's supposed to be ,that might straighten out the console.

Many aftermarket head units come with a filler plate to close that gap. Contact either Crutchfield or a local audio shop to see what they can offer . I bought a baking plate when I swapped my unit out about 15 years ago and had no problems with the fitment going from a 1.5 DIN unit cavity down to a 1.0 DIN head unit.

The gap he's talking about is between the radio pod and the console
