Rear seat delete/ compartments

Sup guys. wanted to share my little project i just started. having owned fc rx7s and c4 corvettes, i always liked the little compartments they had instead of rear seats. anyways ive been looking for a set of these FC compartments for the longest cause i thought i could make them work in a 3rd gen. found a deal on ebay and pulled the trigger. so theyre kinda cool cause theyre not a solid compartment. theyre more of like a bag. they have lights in each pocket which i gotta decide if i wanna wire those up or not. so with a little bit of trimming i got them to roughly fit in. i still need to trim some more and add extensions to the lower front half. then ill find some dove grey carpet or something close to cover it in and should be good. been thinking making the passenger side one my battery relocation area.

I like it, great idea for that space. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Oh, wow. I was planning on building something like this already, but it looks like this might be an easier/faster route.

Re: Rear seat delete/ compartments

Schrader used to offer delete kits for 4thgens long ago. I'm thinking they might've made them for 3rdgens too, but if so, then it was only for a short time, most likely due to the usual reason.
Shrader Performance – Custom Dyno Tuning – Modular Ford & Coyote

They currently offer kits for newer cars. Some of the kits look like they might be doable in a 3rdgen, but it would take some info from Schrader about the different applications.

There are a lot of pictures online and in 4thgen forums of their delete kit installed in 4thgens. It was nice, compartmented and looked more involved than the current kits they offer for newer cars. I think someone here on TGO, sometime ago, posted pictures of his installation of the 4thgen kit in his 3rdgen. The rear seat areas aren't very different, so the fit wasn't bad.

Maybe someone could get Schrader to revive the 3rdgen and/or 4thgen kit.

yeah ive tried looking for pre-made delete kits but doesnt seem like anybody sells them or if they do theyre just over price flat pieces of carpeted plastic. the hawks one are a big joke. just a cover that goes over lower seat mount.

Re: Rear seat delete/ compartments

found some real thin sheets of wood at work to help me figure where and how this thing is going to mount. got it sitting about level with the side arm rests. im going to make the pieces longer and cover the holes on both sides. i think once everything is covered with carpet it should look half way decent. also gotta find spray paint to paint the lid covers ( i kinda wanna paint some other interior panels too). i took the bottom out of one of the compartment and had to trim where the lower seat rod things slide into the seat. i was going to use those quick latch things to hold them in but with the front screwed into the lower bracket it holds the hole thing it pretty good. might have to make something for the rear though.

Re: Rear seat delete/ compartments

so i redid the front pieces to come to the edge on the door opening, added poster board to fill in the center piece then covered the seems and screws with duct tape to cut down on seems and bumps. got 1.5 yards of med grey carpet from a local upholstery shop, some of their preferred glue and some interior paint. wrapped the whole thing in carpet. cleaned and scuffed the plastics on the flaps then 2 coats of paint. put the compartments in and screwed everything together. i still gotta removed the seatbelts. loving how it looks. came out better than i was expecting.

Re: Rear seat delete/ compartments

There it is. That's what we wanted to see, pictures with the lids closed so we could see how it looks back there. And it looks very good. Nice work.

What kind of material was the original piece made from, and what kind of material did you use to complete it? I'm curious about how heavy the completed project is.

Wow, I like this idea a lot. I feel like it would be easy enough to diy the basic shape except those lids are really nice.

thanx. the original piece i wanna say is like a plastic/ fiberglass mix. its kinda weird. a little itchy cutting it. i just added some pieces of pretty thin wood on the front and some poster board to fill in the upper portion of the front part to make a smoother transition. it really doesnt weight much. maybe at the most like 8-10 pounds.

You should make molds and sell those. I like that a lot.

I would also like to purchase this, if you measured it and we could find the person with the right tools, this would be an amazing part to have.

Re: Rear seat delete/ compartments

This is a cool idea. Looks like you could make the whole thing out of wood. The top piece could have the edges cut to match the panel curves better or just sit on top of the rear armrest pieces. Cut another piece of wood for the front and match the profile of the floor / middle hump. Cut some holes in the top wood piece for the compartment pieces. Carpet the whole thing, install the compartments and whalla!

Re: Rear seat delete/ compartments

Great idea. Here is my version of a lockbox made from steel to keep valuables safe when the T-Tops are off.

Rough check with Roll bar

Rough check in the IROC

Carpet and lock installed

Lid open, amplifier installed

Final installation

Re: Rear seat delete/ compartments

Here's my take I did a few years back. Might take the carpet off and use it as a pattern to make out of fiberglass or something lighter than 3/4" plywood. Been dragging my feet since I can't decide if I really want to only have a 2 seater.
