Mysterious water leaks?

I just bought a third gen 1988 Firebird, and first in the trunk but then more so in the rear passenger foot well water started appearing. I assumed it was the seals on either the trunk hatch/T-tops but where the water was in the footwell the passenger seat was covering and it was perfectly dry. My friend thinks it might be due to a clogged drain but I'm not sure how to check/fix that. Any advice on that or other solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Mysterious water leaks?

Clogged condensate drain for heater core/blower.
I'll also be willing to bet that the screen in front of the heater core is full of leaves and other crap and hasn't been cleaned since the car was new.
I wasn't having leaks, but I was having poor airflow thru the ducts in my 91 TA after having it about 18 months. I did a mod so i could easily remove the cover from the heater core and clean it periodically. Ill try to find my writeup and repost it.
Can't help you with T tops or trunk. I have convertibles.

Re: Mysterious water leaks?

I think Roorancher is correct about the clogged drainage line. It happened to me once years ago on an '87 Cavalier. Sounds exactly like what you described about the passenger footwell. The car smelled of stale, tepid water. I went to a garage. The guy put the car on the rack, took out a thin metal rod, and stuck it into the drainage line. Broke the clog.

Re: Mysterious water leaks?

Do you know where is the drainage line you’re talking about and how would I go about cleaning that out? What you discribed sounds pretty much what we’ve got.
