opti problem
Hey guys i just changed my opti&new vaccum harness on my 96. I put the new one in and now it takes a long time for the car to start. It doesnt seem like its turning smooth. To get it to start i have to gas it a bit. Then it only runs if i continue to step on the gas. It doesnt run well at all sounds like its skipping. Then when i take my foot off the gas the car shuts right off. I scanned the computer it pulled code p0336 Crank shaft position sensor i changed it with a new one and try to start the car. Same problem. Any idea?

It might not have been the crank sensor per se'. I could've been a reluctor ring on the crank, or the wiring for the crank sensor. Just puttin' out idears.

yea did u misalign it, i know its not common but it can go in wrong, with my first opti swap it didnt idle right, found out the BRANDNEW OPTI was defected..... So i got a new 1 free, if u got it at advance auto take it back as a defect get a new one....
pull it back off and make absolutely certain you aligned it correctly. it should fully seat with almost no pressure at all. my car ran like total crap for about a week, turned out I put the opti on about 20* off.

When you installed it, did the Opti fully seat without putting the bolts in? If you had to tighten the bolts to seat it, its probably off a little.

Sorry to bring this one up from the dead, but I have a similar question. I am getting my *** Hammered by my bro-in-law's 93 LT1. Is it possible to install the opti dist out of timing? If so, HOW IN THE HELL IS THAT POSSIBLE? Sorry, like I said this thing is kicking my ***. And who is the Mfer that put 2 ground wires near the starter solenoid? That's another story. This car has certainly made me realize I suck. Really I'm not that bad, but this is the last LT1 for me!

you have to work at it to do it, but yes it is possible. I had mine about 20* off for a week a couple of years ago. Pulled it back off, saw a mark on the back of the opti where the pin had been riding, and reinstalled it making certain the pin was in the correct place.

The '93's are very easy to get off since they are splined instead of keyed (or pinned) like the 94+ are. On my '95 model, I had someone turn the engine over with a pullhandle and socket while I had my finger over number 1 cylinder until I felt compression. The opti has a mark for 1 and 6 indicating TDC on cylinder 1 and cylinder 6. I spun the opti around to #1 and slid it on. Car runs like a champ.

Thanks for your help TexasLT1. I'm glad I searched before posting a new topic. I was in fact two teeth off on the distributor. I can't understand how. I though I was careful. I know I didn't force it into place. Well, at least its running ok now. I have other fish to fry on this car. I have been chasing down all sorts of wiring shorts, some I created, others some other jerk made trying to rig the power options to work.
Thanks Again
